Hard landing at Antalya airport – Airline preliminary internal investigation results.
Azimuth Airlines decided to make a payment to the passengers of the flight A45051 Sochi – Antalya, performed on November 24, 2024.
In accordance with the preliminary internal investigation results, the Airline hereof informs, that on November 24, 2024, AZIMUTH Airlines was operating a flight A45051 from Sochi to Antalya. There were 89 passengers and 6 crew members aboard. Cruise flight and approach proceeded normally. Landing was performed by an experienced airline captain, having over 12,500 flight hours. The aircraft was following the established approach and landing parameters, and no deviations were observed. During the landing, an unexpected wind shear occurred, which caused the hard landing. The flight crew was able to keep the aircraft on the runway.
After the aircraft has stopped on the runway, cabin crew noticed smoke outside the left side of the aircraft and immediately reported the captain. The captain called to evacuate the passengers and the crew. Fuel, spilled from the damaged fuel tanks flamed on the runway, the aircraft itself did not catch fire. Fire was rapidly extinguished by the firefighters few minutes after landing.
Duties performed by the cabin crew should be noted – passenger evacuation was performed through the front right door, in accordance with the rules, from the side opposite to the fire, under the full oversight of the cabin and flight crew.
As a result of the prompt and competent actions of the cabin crew, there were no passenger injuries observed. The captain and the crew were the last to leave the aircraft. Passengers hand luggage and baggage were not damaged and were returned to the passengers later on. The airline delivered all the passengers, who commenced with the luggage delivery delay from the flight to their places of stay.
A backup aircraft was sent to carry passengers on the return flight A45052 from Antalya to Sochi, and all the passengers were accommodated in a hotel while waiting for the flight.
AZIMUTH Airlines operates strictly in accordance with the aviation legislation requirements and rules. Passenger safety during the flight is ensured by experienced flight and cabin crews.
Currently, the airline employees are actively cooperating with Turkish aviation authorities and the investigation commission.
The damage to the aircraft is being assessed by the airline specialists in collaboration with United Aircraft Corporation specialists.
AZIMUTH Airlines decided to make a payment to the passengers of the flight A45051 Sochi – Antalya, performed on November 24, 2024, in the amount of 100,000 RUB. The passengers were informed individually about the procedure of receiving of such a payment.
